In a previous article, we talked about what season is best to choose for a trip to the Dominican Republic and how you can save in one of the seasons.

Now we will talk about all the seasons and analyze each month specifically, so that you can decide on the choice of your trip.

The climate on the island of Hispaniola, two-thirds of the island of which is occupied by the Dominican Republic, is tropical. There are two distinct tropical seasons: dry and wet. The wet season is considered the hottest, and the dry one is slightly colder. In general, the weather in the Dominican Republic does not change much, all year round the temperature mark is kept at 25-27 degrees Celsius, with slight changes in the months. Consider these changes.

Weather in January.

January is a month, a winter month, and the winter period is considered the best and most favorable for travel. The beginning of the month is undoubtedly the most popular among tourists, as many prefer to spend the New Year holidays under the bright sun surrounded by branched palm trees. The temperature in January varies from 23 to 27 degrees Celsius, about 58 mm of precipitation falls on average, which is very small compared to other periods. This month, no hurricanes will form, rain may catch you very briefly, or it may not rain at all. It is also worth remembering that the UV index is only 8, which is very small for this country, so many travel with children, not fearing the consequences of overheating and burns. But, no matter how small the UV index is, there is a possibility of overheating especially in young children, so do not forget about safety and use sunscreens.

Weather in February.

February is considered the driest month of the year, so the probability of precipitation is very low, almost vanishes. This is the last winter month in the Dominican Republic, and it pleases its tourists with comfortable weather. So the air temperature in February is 25-27 degrees Celsius, the water temperature is about 26 degrees in the ocean, but this temperature allows absolutely all tourists to swim, because all hotels have shallow water, so the water warms up by 2-3 degrees. This is the best month for a trip to the Dominican Republic in the winter.

Weather in March.

In the Dominican Republic, the spring season begins, March pleases us with a hotter sun and a warm ocean. It gets a little hot, the air in the daytime warms up to 28-30 degrees, the water in the ocean is already up to 27-28 degrees. The coolest month to travel. The UV index reaches 11, compared with January, where the UV index was 8, in March sunscreens with a high degree of sun protection should be used most carefully. Do not forget about children, they are more prone to overheating and burns, so protect your child, in the daytime try not to go out in the sun, be in the shade.

Weather in April.

Spring in the Dominican Republic begins to gain momentum, the climate becomes wet, which is pronounced on an increase in precipitation, up to 68 mm. Despite the fact that the air temperature is the same as in March, such a temperature is already much more difficult to tolerate. The ocean warms up to 30 degrees.

Weather in May.

May offers tourists unstable weather with possible hurricanes. The amount of precipitation increases to 155 mm on average, tropical showers can last a long time, but mostly it is a night time period. May is a transitional month between the dry season and the hurricane season. The air temperature warms up to 28-30 degrees, but high humidity contributes to severe fatigue from the sun. The temperature in the ocean is the same as in April. The UV index stands at a high mark.

Weather in June.

June is the beginning of the hurricane season. Many tourists note that there are practically no hurricanes, it continues to rain with the least amount of rainfall, on average about 103 mm. The temperature of air and water is also high, the climate is very humid, the risk of burns or overheating is high.

Weather in July.

We should expect in July the same temperature indicators as in June. Heavy rains, squalls, storms begin to appear, which tells us about the influence of a tropical cyclone. Tropical showers also continue to go at night and in the morning, a total of about 89 mm of precipitation falls during this month.

Weather in August.

August is rich in rains and tropical showers, a particularly unstable month for visiting this country. Hurricanes can delay you in your hotel rooms for 3 or 4 days. However, do not forget that the weather is unpredictable at any time of the year, hurricanes can completely bypass the Caribbean archipelago or be completely absent, so you will have the opportunity to spend the hottest month of the year on the island. Precipitation falls mainly in the afternoon or at night.

Weather in September.

Air temperature warms up to an average of 31 degrees Celsius during the day, and night temperatures to 26 degrees. The temperature in the ocean reaches 32-33 degrees. September is the hurricane season. Severe destructive hurricanes occur every few years.

In 2019, after several years of calm, hurricanes arrived in the Dominican Republic from August 29 to 30, and three hurricanes raged in the area: Jerry, Lorenzo and Karen. The devastating hurricane Dorian in September 2019 bypassed the Dominican Republic, which cannot be said about the Bahamas, where many residents were affected by the disaster. Hurricanes Jerry, Lorenzo and Karen had a fairly high wind force, about 65 km per hour. Mostly hurricanes took place in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Weather in October.

The wettest month in the resorts of the Dominican Republic. About 190 mm of precipitation falls. The air temperature drops slightly to around 30 degrees, the water temperature remains almost the same as in the previous month. Many people prefer to book packages this month, as prices are not as high as in November or December. A large number of tourists choose holidays in October in order to travel around the country.

A huge selection of our excursions will allow you to enjoy the country completely and find out a lot of interesting information about the country.

Weather in November.

The beginning of the tourist season in the Dominican Republic. The air temperature drops to 27 degrees, and the water temperature to 26 degrees, which is especially comfortable for many tourists. In November, the resorts of the Mediterranean no longer accept tourists for a beach holiday, and the Dominican Republic just opens up many destinations in the region. Overheating and burns with a UV index of 8 are unlikely. The amount of precipitation, compared with October, is reduced to 100 mm. When choosing a tour or planning your trip, follow the weather forecast to keep abreast of changes.

Weather in December.

If you are still thinking about traveling to the Dominican Republic in the month of December, then do not doubt your choice. This is the most successful month for beach and sightseeing holidays.
